Red - Taylor Swift

“Red” is a country-pop song by 33 year old pop star Taylor Swift. There are two versions of this song, “Red” and “Red Taylor’s Version.” The original song was released on October 22, 2012, and the re-recorded version was released on November 12, 2021. There are two versions of the song because she did not own the official original recording of the song as well as “I Knew You Were Trouble,” “22,” and “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.”

“Red” has a deep meaning inside it using colors to describe Swift’s emotions. The song, however, is mostly focused on a fading romance rumored to be between her and her ex-boyfriend, Jake Gyllenhaal. Around the time the album “Red” was released (the song “Red” being in the album) she was just getting out of a 3 month relationship with Gyllenhaal, leading everyone to believe that the album and the song was talking about the relationship, and the break-up.

The couple started dating in 2010 when Swift was 20 and Gyllenhaal was 29. They broke up on January 4, 2011 Swift being 21, and Gyllenhaal being 30 because of Swift’s fame. In the song “All Too Well,” which is part of the album “Red” it gives us another clue that the album is about her and Gyllenhaal’s break-up because it says “You said if we had been closer in age maybe it would have been fine and it made me want to die,” and as we see in their ages, they are nine years apart, also leading us to believe that she is referring to him.
