This is the cover for Mariokart deluxe 8

If you are new to the game Mariokart and would like to know more about it, then you should read this article to learn some tips and tricks to the game.

First off, you need to understand the levels of the main mode, the grand prix. After you select how many players you want to play with (you can play solo, 2-player, 3-player, or 4-player), and you choose the grand prix mode, 4 levels will pop up. These levels are 50cc, 100cc, 150cc, reverse (we will talk more about reverse later), and 200cc. As a beginner, you should start by selecting 50cc, and as you get better, and the level you have been selecting has gotten too easy, then choose the level above to boost the challenge. Now about the reverse mode. The other levels are self-explanatory, 50cc is the easiest, 200cc is the hardest, but the reverse is different. The reverse is the equivalent of 150cc, but the track you are on reverses so all the turns are in the opposite direction. If you end up getting so good at the game that you memorize all of the tracks, then reverse is a good choice for you.

Next up, we have what settings to turn on and off for a beginner. After you are in a match of any mode, press the plus button. This will pause the match and will have some settings that you can turn on and off. If you want to continue getting better at the game you should turn steer assist, auto accelerate, and tilt-steer off. Steer assist will stop you from falling off the road, and sometimes even taking shortcuts. If you want to get better at the game you should turn this off to get better at steering and be able to master the game. Auto accelerate is pretty self explanatory, you accelerate automatically. This could cause you to constantly run into walls and never be able to stop, which could cause problems. The last thing you should do is turn off tilt-steer. This means you have to tilt the controller in order to be able to turn. This can get tiring and you can have more consistent turns with it off.

Next, we have how to get and use power ups. When in a race you simply run into a rainbow colored box with a question mark on it and it will give you a random power up. You press the back right button (zl) to shoot or use the item.

Finally,  we have how to choose your car character and race. After you have chosen the grand prix and the level you want it at, you get to pick your character. These characters are any Mario character and some Zelda and animal crossing characters. After you choose your character, you can choose a car and its wheel and then the glider you want. There are several jumps in the game that cause you to have to deploy the glider, just in case you were wondering what the glider is for. Then you get to chase a cup, which has four races in it. If you get first, second, or third at the end you get presented with the cup you chose.

That’s about everything you need to know as a Mariokart 8 deluxe beginner!
