Boy Missing From Mother in California Floodwater

The historic storms devastating much of California have turned entire neighborhoods into lakes, unleashed sewage into floodwater, and killed at least 20 people. The storms have caused loads of damage and have cost an estimated 30 billion dollars and have also caused others their lives. They are expecting one or more storms to come in the next week and might be just as bad. Central California was among the hardest hit areas on Monday, with hillsides collapsing on highways and flooded rivers and creeks.

Kyle Doan was on his way to his first day of kindergarten back from winter break. He was with his mom, who also works at the same school as a special education teacher.  while driving to school water attacked their SUV and Kyle’s mom held onto him, as water poured over the low point in the rural road and began propelling the vehicle. She took them out of the car but was not able to hold onto kyle in the strong current. ¨She made the best decisions she could,¨ Doan said, his voice breaking. ¨I got to keep stressing that. She couldn’t stay in the car with him. The flows were going to overpower the car later on… They got out. That was the right thing to do.¨said her husband, Doan. Authorities have been searching for Kyle on and off since Monday, Over 100 National Guard members arrived at the scene to help search for the missing child. ¨The SUV was later found upside down and covered in mud and debris¨, Doan said. The mother was pulled safely out of the water.

¨Kyle’s mother took him out of his car seat and escaped the vehicle¨, Mr. Doan said, but lost hold of her son in the coursing stream. The mother described the harrowing moment her child slipped away from her after they got out of the car. “I was basically at that point hugging the tree and trying to grab Kyle’s hands, but the current pushed Kyle out and our hands slipped,” Lindsy Doan told CNN. The search for Kyle continued on Wednesday, with assistance from other law enforcement agencies, after it was halted the previous afternoon due to low visibility. The law enforcement agencies plan to continue to help on Thursday and as long as they can until they find kyle. All that we can do now is hope that kyle is found and remains safe.
