Who’s Renée Rapp?

Whos+Ren%C3%A9e+Rapp%3F

Many new artists are rising, one in particular is Renée Rapp. Renée is gaining recognition because of her newest appearance; Mean Girls (2024), playing the role of the iconic Regina George. Mean Girls (2024) is a musical, turning the iconic scenes from the original Mean Girls (2004) into catchy songs 20 years later. Renée has been doing musical theatre since she was a kid, even making it to Mean Girls as Regina George on Broadway in 2019 going into 2020. When Renée was on Broadway, she was just 19 years old! Renée took time off of her Broadway and musical theatre career in 2021 to act in the popular HBO Max series The Sex Lives of College Girls as Leighton Murray, a queer girl balancing her struggles between coming out and being an ordinary, fun, college girl like everyone else. Renée has worked on this television show since 2021, continuing into 2024. The series has 2 seasons and is planning to continue, however, Renée says she will be leaving the show sometime in season 3. Renée told interviewers “I can do music on the side, like I can just hustle, and now I’ve just kept acting because it keeps supporting the music.” Following her goodbye post on social media. Renée has remained in the show but has been focusing more on her music lately.

Renée now has 2 albums, her EP debut album, Everything to Everyone which was released in 2022. Everything to Everyone is an album expressing mental health issues, relationships, and what it’s like growing up queer. The opening song on Everything to Everyone is also called Everything to Everyone and has all those struggles along with a message of how impossible it is to be “everything to everyone” no matter how much you want to or try to. Renée has now released her second album, Snow Angel capturing struggles with relationships, being a queer girl, living with ADHD, mental struggles, and overall struggles of being a young adult. The album has a perfectly even mix of upbeat and slow songs. The opening song on Snow Angel called Talk Too Much illustrates how she knows she wants to be with someone but she second-guesses herself often and starts having regrets. The first single from Snow Angel is called Snow Angel which she wrote about how she gets left behind and the tragic story of how her friends left her stranded while she was drugged which caused her to go missing for 7 hours. Snow Angel is Renée’s best-selling album with over 18,000 units sold, earning her the title of “The biggest solo debut album for a female artist in 2023.” Snow Angel ranked 7 in the U.K., and hitting 44 on Billboard’s 200 album chart. Renée released the deluxe version of Snow Angel in November of 2023, adding the songs Swim, and Tummy Hurts (Remix), featuring Coco Jones. Renée is currently on her Snow Angel tour called The Snow Hard Feelings Tour, starting in Houston, Texas on September 15th, 2023, and as of right now expected to end in Reading, U.K on August 25th, 2024. Fans have attended and Renée even offers a V.I.P. pass to meet her after the show.

Many fans and critics say Renée was “Robbed” at the 2024 Grammys because she wasn’t nominated for any awards, let alone the “Best New Artist.” Fans were angry because Snow Angel has been called a great album by many critics. Renée’s “new” album (which many don’t consider an ep) isn’t a studio album, it’s just a soundtrack, from the Mean Girls (2024), Motion Picture, featuring songs like Stupid With Love, World Burn, Sexy, and Revenge Party. Renée has one younger brother, Charles, who has been a musical aquatince on her tour. In high school, Renée played Sandra in Big Fish, where she won an award for “Best Performance by an Actress.” Renée came out to the public as bisexual in 2022 during an interview, however in 2024 she hinted at being lesbian on her SNL skit, being referred to as “little lesbian intern Renée.” Many people thought it was just for the skit but past interviews resurfaced and people found her hinting at being a lesbian more often than before. Finally, on February 8th, 2024 Renée posted a TikTok to her song Tummy Hurts with the caption “Writing this then coming out as a lesbian i contain multitudes”, confirming she is lesbian. Overall, Renée Rapp has a positive leadership on the younger community, and is an amazing, rising, star.

My name is Chloe Lent, I'm in 7th grade and I love music! I like to binge-watch TV shows and movies with my friends and family in my free time because most things we watch are good but when I watch them alone it's not as fun as watching them with people! I love to write about animals, issues in our society, reviews, and music/musicians because I love animals, I find issues in our society very pleasing and entertaining to read, and some of my favorite things are music and TV!
