              On May 2, 2023, Joel Embiid found out he was the NBA 2022-23 MVP winner. This was the first time the 76ers star got MVP. Even though the Sixers didn’t go as far as they would have liked in this season’s playoff against the Boston Celtics in a thrilling 7-game series. Joel Embiid still has something to be happy for after this great MVP year. Joel Embiid beat out the 2 other MVP candidates Nikola Jokic and Giannis Antetokounmpo which puts him as one of the best basketball players in the world right now.

      Joel grew up in Yaoundé, Cameroon where he was born on March 16th,1994. At the age of 16 Embiid moved to the United States to take the next step to be a professional basketball player. After playing high school basketball the 5-star recruit chose to go to Kansas to play college basketball. He went to Kansas because people within the NBA told Joel Embiid that Kansas would best prepare him for the NBA. After one year in college at Kansas University Embiid was one of the 30 finalists for the Naismith college player of the Year candidates so he declared for the 2014 draft class.

               Joel Embiid was the third pick of the 2014 draft but had to miss his rookie season because of a broken bone in his foot. Embiid also missed his second season because of a foot injury and the death of his brother. In his MVP season, Joel averaged 33.1 points per game which was the most in the NBA and he averaged 10.2 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game. Embiid was also the best free throw-shooting center in the league in the 2022-23 NBA season. After this outstanding season, Joel Embiid had with getting MVP he will definitely be a finalist for the MVP next season and will have something to be proud of after his success in the 2022-23 season.
