The United States Women’s National Team is coming to Denver to play their match against South Korea in June 2024 at Dicks Sporting Goods Park, which is the Colorado Rapids home field. The last time the US played at Dicks Sporting Goods Park was in June of 2022 when they beat Columbia 3-0 with the home state hero, Sophia Smith scoring twice. The US team has never lost at Dicks Sporting Goods Park, and the only time coming near it was a wild 3-3 tie against Japan in 2016.
The match will be the first for new coach Emma Hayes. Under United States soccer, two more friendlies will be played in early July before the team heads to Paris for the 2024 Olympics. The women’s group stage will start on July 25. Interim coach Twila Kilgore noted the friendly matches will serve as a useful, and final look at the player pool before the final roster for the Olympics is established, so the team will “carry that extra edge”, says the interim coach. The USWNT carries three-star players from Colorado. Sophia Smith from Windsor, Lindsay Horan from Golden, and Mallory Pugh from Littleton. With just the three Colorado Natives combined, the US Team has 272 caps (national team appearances), 80 goals, and 69 assists.
