There has recently been a new rule set in NCAA volleyball where setters are allowed to do a double touch without perfect rotation, if you don’t know already a double touch is where a player, mainly the setter in this location, is allowed to set the ball twice, basically touch it twice.
In the old rule of volleyball no players were allowed to bump or set the ball twice that would be known as a double-touch, which would be “illegal” normally.
There is much controversy about this because players have worked very hard on perfecting their set into not having to do a double touch and having to do a perfect rotation, which takes lots of hard work and effort to perfect. Setters are very important in every type of volleyball. But by this rule being set in place it is basically throwing the setters and players hard work away and causing so much confusion in volleyball.
My opinion on this mainly the same as many others, because I play and have played volleyball for a very long time at different schools, different rec teams and many different leagues and have played in the position of a setter for awhile I’m quite upset about this considering how much hard work I’ve put in to make my sets perfect for it all just to be “thrown away” basically so easily.
So will the industry change the rule back because of all the complaints ? Or just leave it?
What’s your opinion on this new rule?
