I love to ski, I’ve been skiing since I was around 4 years old, I’ve always skied at Winter Park. No matter where you ski, there are always things to fear and think about while you ski.
Recently on the weekend of February 3rd and 4th, I was skiing with my dad and his friend and I was on my phone while we were in the restaurant when we left I put my phone back into my pocket but forgot to zip it up. On the run, Long Haul fell and my phone fell out of my pocket.
Another of my fears while skiing is getting lost and not knowing what run I’m on and how to get back to my car or someplace. Also worse than that is getting lost later in the day, around 3 or 4, because it gets so much harder to find where you need to get to with more chair lifts closed.
This fear is more irrational than falling off the chairlift or the chair falling off the rope. I’ve heard of chairs falling off the rope before but they were more the person on the lift’s fault because they were swinging the chair or for whatever reason the lefties were running the lift in a lot of wind and the chairs fell off.
Another fear is falling and getting hurt. This fear triples if you are by yourself. If you’re by yourself you don’t have another person to call ski patrol and if you’re in the trees that makes it even harder for ski patrol to find you if you can somehow call them. You can probably call ski patrol if you have a broken bone but if you have a concussion or you get buried in the snow that is the scariest part of skiing.
