What’s Going on With The Broncos

The Denver Broncos are struggling so far throughout the 2022-2023 season because of bad coaching decisions, low-point scoring, and QB problems, among other things. They have a 2-3 record and just recently lost to the Indianapolis Colts 12-9. The game was in Denver at Mile High Stadium on October 6th, 2022, their offense was a mess and they lost by not taking an easy field goal and missing it on 4th and 1 in overtime. The entire game was only field goals making it one of the least interesting games of the 2022-2023 season. There were four interceptions during the game which can make you tell that it was an all-defense game. The Broncos QB Russell Wilson passed for 274 yards on 21/39 passes and 2 interceptions. The Broncos were winning 9-6 until the Colts’ Stephon Gilmore (4-time pro bowler, 2 first-team All-Pro selections) intercepted a pass intended for Courtland Sutton in the end zone which set up the game-tying field goal by Chase McLaughlin to send the game into OT. The Colts after that won the coin toss (chose to receive) and kicked a field goal that put them up 12-9, the Broncos then ran down the field to the 5-yard line, it was 4th and 1, and they threw it to Courtland Sutton and it got broken up by Stephon Gilmore again.

The Bronco’s defense played a great game, but it was all for nothing since the Bronco’s offense couldn’t get anything going. Caden Sterns (filling in for the injured Justin Simmons) had the only two picks from Matt Ryan which was great because the Broncos needed somebody to fill that spot when Justin Simmons got injured. Going back to the offense, Nathaniel Hackett (the one calling the plays for the offense and the head coach of the Broncos) is doing a horrific job as OC, one of the only reasons the Broncos have 2 wins is because of their defense bailing them out and because they played one of the NFL’s worst:  the Houston Texans. Hackett was once the offensive coordinator for the fantastic Green Bay offense, now he is coaching for the poor Broncos offense.

So far we can’t tell whose fault it is for the Broncos’ three losses, but it’s not their defense. Opponents are averaging 16 points per game in the 2022-2023 season (which is 4th in the NFL) against the Denver defense, which makes it hard to blame. Seeing how their defense can play can bring you to their offensive side of the ball and see if those guys have any factor playing into the Bronco’s three losses. Their RB core was one of the best last year with Javonte Williams and Melvin Gordon lll both with over 1,000 scrimmage yards. Their WR core had Jerry Jeudy only starting in 5 games, but Courtland Sutton and Tim Patrick having a good 2021-2022 season, sadly Tim Patrick tore his ACL in the preseason and will be out for the remainder of the 2022-2023 season. Then, it obviously brings you to the QB, Russell Wilson, he is not off to a great start in the season and it’s making many a lot of Denver fans very worried about what is next to come. People are questioning if the Broncos should’ve even traded for him to begin with, and if he keeps up how he’s been performing that question probably is going to become true.
