Immigration and Immigration Laws

Starting with what are the immigration laws instituted in the United States of America. Well, those laws exist to determine whether a person is an alien, as well as the rights, duties, and obligations associated with being an alien in the United States. Not to mention that there is a whole force dedicated to enforcing said laws being I.C.E. It stands for Immigration Customs Enforcement. Just the fact that they are calling people “aliens.” That is messed up because if you think about it an alien is a foreigner like someone who is not from a certain place. But just the fact that people are calling other people is absolutely crazy.

It’s not just laws but also bills in order to “help” with these laws. The bill was instated by Governor Ron DeSantis named SB 1718. This criminalizes traveling across state lines with undocumented people, including family members. This bill was passed in Florida and if people are found guilty, they can be charged with a felony. It was instated on July 1st, 2023 almost a year ago. But so basically what this bill does is that it legalizes profiling because now any law enforcement can question anyone’s status in the U.S. Before that bill was passed you could not question anyone’s status because that was against the law. This means that the bill is unconstitutional because it is going against the law. Also, the fact that Florida’s labor workforce is mostly made up of “immigrants.” This means that there is good produce going to waste because the one how one collected it is now gone because they don’t want to be charged with a felony.

Not only that but also these immigration laws can and have broken up families. The 14 Amendment is that anyone who is born in the United States of America is a citizen. This means that if a person who is undocumented has a child with another person who is also undocumented people are calling those kids “anchor babies”. The reason for that is that the parents of this child can not leave their child in the States if they get deported so they “anchor” themselves here. But that’s not the problem, it’s the fact people are calling these kids “anchors”. Not only that but it is extremely difficult to even get a green card or to become a resident, and even more an actual citizen. Not to mention that they have changed the term from immigrants to undocumented people is crazy.
