Earth Day 2024

Earth+Day+2024

Earth Day 2024

Every year on April 22nd there is a holiday that is called Earth Day. This holiday was formed (in 1970) to help clean and bring awareness to our planet, which is suffering from global warming, air pollution, land pollution, ocean pollution and much more.

Every Earth Day there is a theme, for example the 2023  Earth Day theme was “ Invest in Our planet”, meaning that people must donate their time, money or both to help keep our planet healthy. The Earth Day theme for 2024 is “ Planet vs. Plastic.” For the 2024 Earth Day theme people around the world have found mass plastic/trash clean-ups near their location and helped pick up trash for a day or more.

Over 5.25 trillion pieces of plastic are in our oceans and 6.3 billion metric tons of plastic waste are on land. Many people are recycling the plastic they’ve used, but the truth is that only 9% of all recycled plastic is actually recycled.

One piece of plastic takes over 1,000  years to break down but even then plastic is not fully gone. Microplastic is made from broken down plastic and these microplastics live in our oceans, on land and even in our bodies. The average human consumes 52,000 microplastics per year.

Plastic is surrounding us and we must do something to help save our planet. Find a beach, park or even your school and pick some up because if everyone does their part our planet will be more clean and healthy.

Hi! I'm Bronwyn Wolfram and I'm in 6th grade. One interesting fact about myself is that I moved to Spain for my 5th grade year. In my free time I like to shop online and play volleyball because they give me a break to get lost in the activity. My favorite thing to write about is funny and interesting articles because they are fun to write and fun to watch people's reactions after reading them.
