A Potential TikTok Ban

A Potential TikTok Ban

The US government is potentially banning TikTok in the U.S. They are worried about the safety of people’s data. In March 2024, a committee in the US Congress passed a bill that says TikTok should cut ties with its parent company, ByteDance, within six months. If TikTok doesn’t do this, it could be banned in the United States. The President of the United States, Joe Biden, signed this bill into law, which means it is now official.

Because of this, the future of TikTok in the US is uncertain. If the ban happens, TikTok will be removed from app stores like Apple’s App Store and Google Play Store. People won’t be able to use it on their phones or computers in the United States.

However, TikTok is trying to fight against the ban. They are talking to lawmakers and trying to convince them that TikTok is important for many people’s jobs and lives. TikTok has also promised to keep American users’ data on servers in the US and protect it from being shared without permission.

Some groups that support free speech and people’s rights are against the ban. They say that although TikTok has some issues with data privacy, it is not much different from other American social media companys. They worry that banning TikTok could greatly impact people’s lives.

Even though TikTok is trying to fight the ban, it is still a big issue in the upcoming presidential election. The future of TikTok in the US is not likely.
