Chapter One: Questions
I stared at the sky. Watching the moonshine. And I wondered how life was like for Momma in heaven.
“Hey, kiddo,” Dad said, snapping me from my trance, “ I thought you might be here.”
“Hmm,” I reply, “ So, is dinner ready?” I ask.
“We ate dinner 5 minutes ago! What do you mean?” he exclaimed.
“Really? I don’t remember that,” I say, smirking, “ Anyway, is the desert ready?”
“SHUT IT!” Grandma Bubba yells from her room.
“Ok!” I yell back.
“Come on let’s go back inside,” Dad says to me.
Fine I say in my head but I know better than to say it to his face, any sass back and boom a smack to my face.
I watched as Dad went inside,
“I’ll be right in dad!” I yell “ Just forgot my sweater!”
“OK” I hear him say.
I lied, I just wanted to say goodnight to Momma.
“‘Night Momma, have a good rest.”
And the star twinkles, that’s how she says goodnight, and I feel a wash of warmth over me and I smile, a wide smile.
