The Transition to Highschool

The Transition to Highschool

The transition from middle school to high school can be one of the most difficult experiences in a teenager’s life, however, there are some ways to prepare yourself for the big step. High School can be intimidating, from the homework to the tests to finding your place, which can cause immense anxiety for middle schoolers, so middle schoolers need to find ways to prepare themselves for high school.

Former McAuliffe student, and current East High School student, Lily Dean says, “It (East High School) is not as big as you think once you know your way around. Also, get involved in activities, join a club, dance, or theater. Get gym credit your first year. You will have a counselor to talk to, but getting it done early is helpful. Be open and friendly to everyone and make friends.”

A few helpful habits for high school include starting to study as the average freshman has about two hours of studying and homework each night. You can also get involved with the school, which allows you to get to the school and the people there.

All in all, although the high school transition can seem overwhelming, there are many things you can do to make that transition easier and smoother.
