For years littering has been a big problem at McAuliffe. It’s really annoying for our janitors to clean up all the trash. Also, it’s annoying when you see kids littering and not cleaning up after themselves, which makes it harder for the teachers. Even though there is a lot of trash and dirt in the halls, there is also a great amount of trash outside where we have lunch and recess.
In the halls, there are lots of gum wrappers, candy wrappers, etc that kids don’t bother to throw away. And occasionally there is trash from lunches and other food items on the floor. And a lot of kids, especially 7th graders, try to toss their trash into the trash cans and if they miss then they usually don’t bother to put it back into the can. Besides trash in the halls, there is also a lot of dirt, mud, and snow that kids bring into the school. When there is a lot of trash outside and many food stains where we eat, we can’t go to recess as quickly and it makes it less enjoyable to eat your lunch with your friends.
Of course, there are many punishments for littering at lunch and in the school. One of them is cleaning up that trash during lunch or recess. When there is a lot of dirt and trash around school it makes it less enjoyable to be at school. Especially when people are touring our beautiful school. They definitely don’t want to see a bunch of trash everywhere. Therefore I think we should make more efforts to clean up our school and make it the beautiful and clean place it should be.
