King Julien

King Julien

Edouard Julien is a French Canadian baseball player for the Minnesota Twins. The 24 year old was born in Quebec City, Canada and is an upcoming star second baseman.

Julien was born on April 30th, 1999 in a French part of Canada. Julien has spoken French since birth and is also speaking English.  Julien attended Cardinal-Roy Secondary School for high school in Quebec. He played for the U18 Team Quebec and won gold in 2016. He was also named the top prospect in Quebec at 16 years old. He had a pretty good career in high school which led him to commit to Auburn University.

Edouard Julien played at Auburn University for 2 years. In his freshman year, he had 69 RBIs in 62 games which set a Auburn freshman record for RBIs in a season. This record broke Frank Thomas’s record which he set in 1987. By the way, Frank Thomas was one of the most dominant power hitters in MLB history. In his sophomore year, Julien led the Auburn team in home runs with 10 and RBIs with 57. His 126 RBIs through his first two years were the most out of any player in the SEC during that time period. With this remarkable two years of college he was set off to the MLB to make his big league dreams come true. And in the 2019 MLB draft the Minnesota Twins drafted Edouard Julien in the 18th round with the 539th pick.

Due to surgery and Covid-19, he wasn’t able to make his minor league debut until 2021 with the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels and eventually later that year he would be promoted to the Cedar Rapids Kernels. In the 2022 season he played for the Double-A affiliate of the Twins, the Wichita Wind Surge. Then in 2023 he got activated to the 40-man roster for the Twins where he would start the year out with the St. Paul Saints. Then suddenly on April 12th the Minnesota Twins promoted Julien to the Majors, where he would play his first career game the following day against the New York Yankees. In the first inning of that game where he was leadoff, he hit a leadoff single for his first career MLB hit, and then he hit a Homer in the exact same inning for his first career MLB home run.

Now this year Edouard Julien leads the Twins in home runs with 7. Right now Julien is batting .216 with a .812 OPS (On Base Percentage plus Slugging Percentage). He has had 2 multi homer games this season through 29 games. He has had a powerful start to the 2024 season, but he needs to improve in a couple areas. He has struck out way too many times and he hasn’t had a ton of strikeouts which are unacceptable.
