In the United States, there are sports with a lot of exposure to the public, with a wide variety of events and tournaments. But what is McAuliffe’s favorite sport? Popular sports in the U.S. include American football, Basketball, Soccer, Baseball, and many more. 

From a poll, we determined that in a class of 26, the most popular sport was Basketball with 5 people having this as their first choice. Basketball has deep roots in the U.S. with one of the most well-established basketball communities in the world. Up next was soccer with 4 votes. This comes as no surprise as soccer is the most popular sport in the world, though its global reach hasn’t gotten a hold of the U.S. until recently. There is a tie for third place with Skiing, football, and volleyball with each sport winning 3 votes. These are all very popular sports, and skiing comes as no surprise since Colorado has one of the largest ski communities in the country, and volleyball is gaining popularity in both the boys and girls game. The U.S. is famous for American Football, what some would consider the most popular sport in the U.S. with the Superbowl having 112 million viewers last year. Next is a tie between people who don’t like sports and gymnastics. Lastly, each with one vote for our class is Archery and Hockey. Both are sports with a global reach, with archery present in the Olympic games since 1972. Hockey is one of the most popular sports in northern countries such as Canada and the Scandinavian countries due to the ability to play year-round, and the deep-established culture.
