Mean Girls (2004)

Mean Girls (2004)

The first Mean Girls is a PG-13 comedy drama released in 2004 that depicts the typical social structure of high school through the experiences of Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan) as she navigates her new school.

The movie exemplifies classic stereotypes in high school through these Characters:

-Cady who is kind but naïve.Though Cady has a good heart, she tends to succumb to peer pressure. After years of homeschooling in Africa with her parents, she just wants to be liked by her peers. Her innocence is her downfall, and she lets the “mean girls” take advantage of her naïveté and desperate desire to fit in.

-Janis is a punk rocker who is witty, artistic, and opinionated. While she can seem aggressive, she cares deeply about her friends and is honest about her feelings. Despite this, Janis can hold grudges for a very long time and can be stubborn.

-Damian is an openly gay, extremely outgoing and friendly person. The most distinctive features of his personality are his enthusiasm in social interactions and his extremely emotional nature.

-Regina is cunning, confident, intelligent and but your typical manipulative popular mean girl. She is capable of doing everything in her power to get what she wants and was the Queen Bee of North Shore High. Throughout the movie, Regina becomes more and more insecure as Cady becomes more popular than her.

-Karen, who is dim-witted, easy-going, and flirty. She might not be the smartest, but she could be psychic. (She even thinks she can predict the weather with her breasts.) Although she’s easily influenced by her friends, she still loves hanging out with them and doing fun things, like going to Taco Bell.

-Gretchen who is gossipy, superficial, and insecure. She knows how hard it is to stay popular in high school, and she’ll do anything to avoid committing social suicide. But her big mouth and insecurity about her friendship with Regina often gets her in trouble.

When Cady moves to North Shore High School after being homeschooled by her parents in Africa while they researched. She instantly befriends Janice and Damian but is quickly recruited by “The Plastics” (Regina, Gretchen, and Karen), and soon in her desperation to become popular, she is consumed by the plastics and soon forgets her first genuine friends. In this classic film, Cady navigates the Excitement and challenges of high school and soon finds her way to her true friends and learns a valuable lesson that Kindness and true friendship are more important the popularity.
