McDonald’s just brought back their Double Big Mac burger from its 4-year absence, and Subway just thought up a foot-long cookie to go with their foot-long sandwich. And I was thinking, is bigger fast food better? And is it better for you?
McDonald’s Double Big Mac has two more patties than the Big Mac burger, plus extra sauce. It has 30% more calories (720g in total) and sodium (2440mg in total) than the Big Mac, and 40% more fat, 43 grams in total, for only $1.50 more. That’s a lot of fat. Especially, of course, since it’s a McDonald’s item. Fortunately, it does have a lot of protein. 38 grams of it in total. With the foot-long cookie, though, if you said that McDonald’s burger was unhealthy, well, this is a whole different WORLD. The cookie skyrockets to a whopping 1440 calories. Wow. Talk about not being healthy. My advice: if you don’t share it, or if it’s not your birthday, don’t get this. No offense, Subway.
“I think it just brings up prices and it’s just unhealthy,” a recess monitor at McAullffe said, disagreeing that bigger is better. But others say yes to big. “It depends on the person you are,” a student said, “If you eat a lot, then eat all you want, but if you don’t eat as much, I wouldn’t recommend it.”
In the end, if it’s your cheat day, your birthday dream, or you really like burgers and want to try all the burgers in the universe, go for it.
