The Disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370

The Disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370

March 8 marks ten years since Malaysia Airlines Flight 370. Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, also known as MH370, is one of the biggest aviation mysteries ever. On March 8, 2014, MH370 took off from Kuala Lampur International airport to its destination at Beijing International Airport in China. In the middle of the flight, it vanished off the radar and has not been seen since.

About 40 minutes after takeoff was the last time MH370 spoke with air traffic control. It was tracked down again in the Indian Ocean by the military radar, but only for an hour, than, it lost all contact with the world.

The pilot was Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah, a 53 year-old from Penang, a state in Malaysia. His co-pilot was a 27 year-old named Fariq Abdul Hamid.

There are many theories of what happened that day. The most reasonable theory is that it crashed into the Indian Ocean. Considering we have only explored 5 percent of our oceans, it could have sunk deep in the water and we haven’t had any contact yet. What makes this eerie is that this flight wasn’t even supposed to go over the Indian Ocean. Instead, it should have gone over the South China Sea to Beijing. Another theory is that it was taken over by aliens! But the most mysterious of all is that it has somehow time-traveled.

All 12 crew members and 227 passengers are presumed dead. 153 of them were Chinese, 50 were Malaysian, 7 were Indonesian, 6 were Australian, 5 were Indian, 4 were French, 3 were American. Also there were 2 people each from Ukraine, New Zealand, and Canada, and 1 person each from Russia, Taiwan, and the Netherlands.
