Video games are computer games, electronic games that are played with a keyboard, joystick, or controller. Typically video games are used by people for relaxation, however, that is not the only use.

One negative effect that can come from video gaming is how it can affect your physical health. While playing video games, most of the time, people will sit in front of a screen for hours on end. Video gaming can cause poor sleep habits because people often have activities to do everyday they will choose to neglect sleeping to play more. In worse cases people will not sleep at all, destroying their sleep schedule. 

Other studies have shown that when you play video games excessively can have a link to depression. Typically when gaming you stay in a room alone for a long time on end, this usually ends up in people ignoring their real-life friends or pushing them away. This is known as isolation which causes a high depression risk. Another factor of this is the video games that are played, study shows that people who play violent video games have more depression symptoms than those who play non-violent video games.

On the other hand, in 2012 a study was conducted which showed that people who play video games are able to see more details especially in the periphery of their eyesight. More good factors that come from playing video games are better problem solving skills, because many games have decision making and involve critical thinking.

In conclusion, video games aren’t necessarily a bad thing but if you let it become an addiction it can be something very harmful to your mental and physical health.
