Justin Fields Has Hope to be a Good QB

October 21, 2022
After his rookie season, everyone was saying Justin Fields was not an NFL QB and he could not compete at the high level of play. Although if you look at his rookie stats compared to other great veteran QBs it would say otherwise. If you compare Field’s rookie stats to Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson Fields had a completion percentage of 59% while Allen had 53% and Jackson had 58%. Fields also had 669 more passing yards than Jackson and only 204 less than Allen. Fields also attempted rushing 72 times and got 420 from the line of scrimmage averaging 5.8 yards per carry, while Jackson who ran more than twice as much as Fields, with 147 rushing attempts, ran for only 275 more yards than Fields and averaged 4.7 yards per carry. And if we look at Justin Fields’ stats from his first season to Jimmy Garoppalo’s first season with the 49ers we see that Fields beats Garoppalo in almost every category.

Meanwhile, Windy City Gridiron of Chicago is stating that he does not have a good chance to be a franchise QB and that the odds are against him in the NFL. In their article, “The Odds are Against Justin Fields”, they state, “However, on individual plays, Fields has also looked terrible. Thus, it’s not box score scouting to look for objective measures of his performance. It’s simply reasonable to try to capture his performance on net. In that regard, he has not played like a franchise quarterback. It’s not just passer rating and ANY/A. Neither of those stats captures fumble rating, which was a particular problem for Fields. He fumbled on average once per game, such a high rate that only one other quarterback in the NFL managed it last year–Mike Glennon.” Windy City Gridiron is saying that Fields cannot produce at a high level as an individual player. This could be stated for any other rookie Quarterback too though. They are trying to say that based on his first year, as a raw talent, with little experience in this high level of play, he cannot produce and is not a franchise QB. With this, I disagree with them. I believe Fields is the future of the Bear’s offense along with David Montgomery and Darnell Mooney. Yes, Fields does have his faults, but they can be fixed and molded into strengths. As I said earlier, Fields is a raw talent, and with proper coaching and training, he can become the face of the Bears franchise.
