Protesters Call for Mount Rushmore to be Removed

Benjamin Lindsay and Lott Roberts

Mt. Rushmore was protested against by the descendant of the person who sculpted the mountain because of unfairness over Native Americans now in 2022 by walking out into the streets peacefully .Protesters have called for the famous mountain to be removed. Why would people, even the descendant of the person who sculpted the mountain, so why have it removed?

Well we have to go back to January 24 1848 that was during the gold rush, mostly they mined in California, but in November 1875 gold miners discovered an abundance of gold in South Dakota, thousands of gold seekers flocked to South Dakota. It was still Indian land at the time. Then in 1889 Americans illegally bought South DAkota.

When legendary sculptor Gutzon Borglum (who had connections with the KKK) heard he wanted to make giant sculptures where the black hills stood, some of his workers wanted to do important native people. But Borglum wanted to do his own heroes, most of the presidents were not very friendly to Native Americans either. Theodore Roosevelt once said,I don’t go so far as to think that the only good Indian is the dead Indian, but I believe nine out of every ten are, and I shouldn’t like to inquire too closely into the case of the tenth. The most vicious cowboy has more moral principle than the average Indian.”

Since America ILLEGALLY bought the Native American land, and we used sacred land to build Mount Rushmore. People want to take Mt. Rushmore down and restore the black hills and the Indian land. This matter is undecided.
