Alexander Hamilton Intended to Kill Aaron Burr

Alexander Hamilton Intended to Kill Aaron Burr

Benjamin Lindsay, Writer

Alexander Hamilton, the founding father of the United States of America, is famous for his duel with the vice president, Aaron Burr, in 1804 where Burr shot and killed Hamilton. What if I told you Hamilton wanted to kill Burr, but Burr shot him in self-defense. In movies and plays, you see Alexander Hamilton aiming his pistol at the sky. Well, what if I told you that was a lie? They just told someone to do that to get rich! Hamilton actually shot his pistol and aimed at Burr.

One motive why Hamilton might have wanted to kill Burr is that Hamilton and Burr were bitter political rivals, and Burr would never take part in a duel, for example, he once said to Hamilton, “Hamilton can we agree that duels are dumb and stupid.” Hamilton responded, “Yeah, but the man has to answer for his words Burr.” then Burr responded, “With his life, we both know that’s absurd.”  Their friendship dulled but then they became close friends until the election of 1800 Aaron Burr vs. Thomas Jefferson for president. In the end, it was a tie, it was up to the delicates, which Hamilton was serving at the time. He picked Jefferson for president.

The duel happened on July 11, 1804. Both men carried their pistols to the grounds. Hamilton pulled out his pistol and aimed for Burr’s head. Just as Hamilton was about to pull the trigger Burr fired hitting Hamilton on the side Hamilton fired but missed. Based on this I believe that Alexander Hamilton attempted murder.
