Harmful Foods For Cats

Nora Villines, Writer

Here are some foods that your cat should stay away from in order to stay safe.

Oddly enough, cats cannot eat dog food. While it is not toxic to cats, it doesn’t provide the nutrients they need daily. Fortunately, small amounts of dog food will not harm cats. If it happens too often though, it could make a cat sick so make sure it doesn’t happen often or at all.

Although your cat may enjoy drinking milk, it’s not good for them to drink it or other dairy products because most of the time, they are lactose intolerant and will have trouble digesting these. If your cat is not lactose-intolerant, you don’t have to worry much about this, but still, be careful.

Cats are prone to get a reaction out of the sweet earthly hint of cinnamon. Although the Animal Poison Control Center doesn’t consider cinnamon to be poisonous, it’s better to stay on the safe side and keep cinnamon away from your pets. Cinnamon can cause rashes, redness and irritation.

Raisins and Grapes are also harmful to your cat. The chemicals in the fruit can cause kidney damage to your cat.

Like dogs, cats should not eat chocolate. The theobromine (product in cocoa beans) is too much for a cat’s immune system and any amount of it will be harmful, making your cat very sick. Luckily cats aren’t usually attracted to chocolate and must be led to it, though there is the possibility that they’ll eat it on their own.

These are the foods to help keep your cat healthy.
