Chet Holmgren will miss the 2022-2023 due to a Lisfranc injury in his right foot on Thursday August 20, 2022 at a Pro-am event. After coming off his amazing summer league season where he averaged 14 points, 8.4 rebounds. 2.8 assists, 2 steals, and 2.8 blocks. The 7-Footer injured his foot defending Lebron James on a fast break. Holmgren then underwent successful surgery on August 30th. Many people thought he was a rookie of the year contender and many fans thought he would change the Thunder franchise. Holmgren was the 2nd overall pick for the Oklahoma City Thunder, being picked after Paolo Banchero. Holmgren had previously been playing for Gonzaga in college where they went down in the sweet 16 after being the 1 seed.

Other high draft picks that were also out for their first season were Blake Griffin, Joel Embid, and Ben Simmons who all later turned out to be all stars. Thunder general manager Sam Presti said “Certainly, we are disappointed for Chet, especially given the excitement he had about getting on the floor with his teammates this season,” At Gonzaga, he was averaging 14.1 points, 9.9 rebounds, and 3.7 blocks. The Thunder have recently been in rebuild mode after losing their superstars Kevin Durant, Russel Westbrook, and James Harden. In the last 2 years, they only won 22 and 24 games.
