Capture the Flag: The Attack

Capture the Flag: The Attack

Straton Geddes, Writer

As Sam looked around at all of the blood and the jerseys, he remembered how gruesome and cruel the Capitol is for sending kids into the arena to fight for death. All of a sudden, Sam got mad at the red team, for killing already 11 people on his team. He turned around and said, “We need to plan a sneak attack and kill as many of them as we can.”

The blue team sat on the ground creating a sneak attack plan on the red team. Juan didn’t really like the idea of just killing, so he told 2 kids to come in after and retrieve the flag. Once they had the plan drawn out, they started preparing for battle. Sam put on body armor, put his sword in his belt, and hung the bow and sheath of arrows on his shoulder. Sam was supposed to lead the attack, so when everybody was ready, he led them to the river. 2 people waited back at the river to come in later, one of them being Breydon. Sam went through the thick forest, the rest of the team following. A little bit on, he saw a red jersey pacing through the trees. He signaled everybody to stop, and pulled his bow off of his shoulder. He took an arrow, strung it on, and aimed for the jersey. Luckily, Sam took bow and arrow practice, so he knew how to aim. He lined it up, and took a shot. Right in the chest. The jersey looked down at the arrow in his chest, and dropped to the ground, taking his last breath. Sam was horrified. He couldn’t bear killing another human, and he just did. “I’m a murderer,” He thought to himself. He dropped down on the ground, almost sobbing. “Hey, you ok?” Juan asked Sam. “Yeah, it just really hurts to kill an innocent person, as well as watching them die, knowing you killed them,” Sam replied. “Yah, I feel you. Killing the red guys down in the field was really hard for me too,” Juan said, trying to make Sam feel comfortable. Sam got back up and they kept on moving. Once they reached the edge of the forest, near reds camp, they bent down and rehearsed their plan. “Remember, spread out through the trees so you aren’t all in a clutter, and then when you hear the ‘bird whistle’ you charge in. hopefully that will draw in the guards of the flag so the others can sneak in and get it.” Sam said. The blue team went out through the trees, and crouched down, waiting for the ‘bird whistle.’ Once Sam thought that his team was ready, he whistled and went in.

Sam, again, led the attack. It was a bloody battle; stabs and slices, and blood flying out of everybody. Sam heard Juan yell “RETREAT!” and he sprinted into the woods, back down to the river. Sam and Juan were the first ones there, and then the rest came sprinting towards them. They walked along the river, listening to and counting the number of cannon shots. “1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9,” Sam counted in his head. All 9 he counted were red. He felt awful, killing those kids. Sam looked around at his team, and noticed one kid, Mark Hinton, he remembered, came out with a missing hand. He was mourning in pain, blood dripping everywhere. “Hey guys, Mark is injured badly,” Sam said. Mark looked up at him. “Seems like you are too,” Mark replied back, “Look down at your stomach.” Sam looked down, and almost fainted at what he saw…
