Pizzas come in many shapes and sizes. Like traditional, thin crust, stuffed crust, pan pizza, New York style or Chicago deep dish. All those pizzas are hard to make at home, they require time and sometimes special equipment. You crave pizza, what can you do that’s simple and gives you the flavor of pizza? An option is the Pizza Bagel.

There are many arguments going on about who really created the pizza bagel. But most sources you look up will probably say 17 year old Bruce Treitman (or at least that’s what I have found) created this food.  Pizza bagels are flat half bagels with cheese and toppings on top. To make a pizza bagel you still need marinara sauce and mozzarella but you can put any topping that you would traditionally put on a bagel or a pizza. Pizza bagels are sometimes called mini pizzas because even though they are made out of a bagel they are a smaller form of pizza. These are super easy to make because all you do is spread jarred marinara and throw some mozzarella cheese on it and put it in the oven and soon enough you have a pizza bagel. These can be eaten as a snack or a meal depending on how many bagels you put in the oven or even toaster oven.

 Overall Pizza bagels are a fun simple to satisfy your craving. I thought I would give a  recipe for you to try and experiment with. Have fun! 


Easy (Betty Crocker)


Serves 8 people

  • ½ cup pizza sauce
  • 4 bagels, split
  • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella or Cheddar cheese (6 oz)
  • Sliced pepperoni, chopped bell pepper, sliced mushrooms or cooked sausage, if desired for toppings


  1. Heat oven to 425°F. Spread 1 tablespoon pizza sauce over each bagel half. Sprinkle each with cheese and desired topping. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet.
  2. Bake for 5 to 10 minutes or until the cheese is melted.
