Soccer’s Origination

Soccer’s Origination

Henry Caldwell, Writer

The modern game of Soccer or “Football” as it is called in almost every country outside the US originated in England in 1863 when the first governing body, the Football association got together to create an official set of rules. Before the official game and rules were created there were different forms of the game in places like China, Greece, Rome, and Japan but with different variations.

As globalization continued to flourish, a once “medieval pastime” became an organized sport between the 1840s and 1870s. It spread very quickly and soon became a very popular pastime in every corner of the globe. The sport soon went from a popular pastime to an organized sport. At first it was just a game for the upper-class of England and was called “Christian gentleman’s game”. But got more and more popular outside of the rich side of things. Leagues soon sprouted across Europe and became the leagues we know today.

Nowadays soccer or Football is the most popular sport in the world with more than 4 billion fans. It shows you how fast the game can spread and how many fans tune into a game or watch them in person themselves every day! Soccer is “The beautiful game”!
