Video Game Reviews

This is Isaiah Wimbs here with the sixth episode of this hopefully ongoing series where I review different video games. Let’s travel our way into our next review Super Mario Odyssey. P.S. This was the first game I got on the Nintendo Switch so I have an emotional connection with this game

The Team

Super Mario Odyssey was released on October 27, 2017, and was developed by Nintendo and composed by Koji Kondo

The Design

This game has a wonderful design ditching the “Game Over” screen and lives altogether instead of a death penalty of 10 coins. Speaking of coins they can now be used to buy outfits, life up hearts, and moons which can be used to travel to different worlds. Of course, you cant forget about the new gimmick: Captures. Captures can be used on enemies so you can use their powers like Frogs with a frog captured you can jump higher. Captures can be used to solve puzzles and beat bosses, but not all enemies can be captured like Mimi goombas which takes me to my next point.

The Enemies

The enemies are wonderful of course we have the staples Goombas, Bullet bills, Hammer Bros, and Pirana plants, and other than the basic enemies we have the new enemies Uproots which are plants Sherms which are tanks, and Chinchos they are mummy enemies found in the desert (At night specifically) they really the enemies are wonderful and really add to the games charm

The Worlds

The worlds are wonderful they have variety and all of the inhabitants have variety and on top of that they are beautiful my favorite one has to be luncheon. they also add all sorts of new enemies that really fit the environments just like the aforementioned Uproots

The Bosses

The bosses are challenging making you use a new skill or capture that you might not have mastered yet they are really fun and add charm to the world. Not to mention the themes are a bop especially Torkdrift, mollusque lanceur, and Bowser (both fights especially the first one though)

Overall

Overall Super Mario Odyssey is a great game. Good bosses, Good story, Fun Worlds, and a good choice for a first switch game. That’s all for this episode buckaroos! See you again today, tomorrow, or anytime convenient for you! Bye!
