Can the 76ers Hold Onto the Eastern Conference

In the NBA, one team leads the eastern conference with a 20-11 record, the 76ers, but can they hold onto it, after a huge start for them and Joel Embiid leading them. After a somewhat disappointing season last year, the Sixers have come out rolling going 20-11 in the first 31 games, the top of the east. They have blown people’s expectations out of the water, but will they be able to hold onto that number one spot, with teams like the Nets, snapping at their heels.

One of the key reasons the Sixers have been performing at this level is because of Embiid. Embiid is currently one of the best centers in the league, and has led his team this far. He has averaged an incredible stat line this season of 30 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 assists. They have multiple other key parts like Tobias Harris, Ben Simmons, and Seth Curry.

Even though they have had this great start, will they be able to hold onto this when other teams have so much more star power? One of these teams is the Brooklyn Nets, who are just behind the Sixers with a record of 20-12. The Nets have 3 star players, Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden, 2 of which have MVP awards and 2 have championship wins. They in total have so much talent on one team, it might be difficult for the Sixers to hold that top spot against such a team.

Another team who might take it are the Bucks. Even though they have a history of not performing to their full potential in the playoffs, they still have Giannis Antetokounmpo, a 2 time MVP. They don’t have too many other star players, but they are still a threat to be on top.

Even though there are multiple possible usurpers to the 76ers throne, the East is a tight competition for the one seed, with many teams going for it, only time will tell for who will come out on top.
