Divergent: By Veronica Roth

Divergent: By Veronica Roth

Zoey Holmquist-Kuhn, Writer

In post apocalyptic Chicago, in the aftermath of the last world war, the lake has turned to marsh and a wall has been built to separate The City from the rest of the world. All of the people have been divided into factions to keep the peace. Abnegation, for those who value selflessness. Erudite, for those who value knowledge. Candor, for those who value honesty. Amity, for those who value kindness. And Dauntless, for those who value bravery. Once a year, every sixteen year old takes an aptitude test, meant to tell them in which faction they belong. Then they choose their faction in front of the entire population. Tris is sixteen and ready to take her aptitude test. But the result is strange, she doesn’t belong in just one faction. She belongs in three, she is Divergent.

The post-apocalyptic world is well crafted and enticing. The new way of governing the world mixed with the old way of living in it combines to create a universe where everyone is constantly trying to find their place and leaving the readers to try and find thiers. Tris takes an epic journey and must question everything she knows, there are constant setbacks and plenty of action. Divergent will keep you hooked and interested with unexpected twists around every corner. Veronica Roth will transport you to a beautifully fabricated world that you can’t decide if you want to live in or not. What faction would you choose?
