John Wall’s Return

John Wall’s Return

Felix Hillhouse, Writer

Just three years ago John Wall was named to the all NBA third team and was thought to be one of the best point guards in the league. Now though, he has totally been forgotten after his injury he is just a small afterthought in the NBA. Yes, the injury he did have was an achilles tendon injury which has ended the careers of many NBA players but Wall is betting on himself. John Wall is not only saying he will come back just as good but that he will come back better. John Wall says he has been injured his entire career and we haven’t even seen him at his full yet. If we even get his 20 ppg 10 assist self again we should be happy because those stats are insane, but if he was really injured then the new John Wall we might get could possibly be the best point guard in the league in the near future. If John Wall has been injured with this Achilles Tendon injury for all this time he must have worked on his shooting. These injuries usually sap athleticism so to have minimal risk of playing very bad when he comes back and being at loss of a job he must have worked on his shooting. He has never been a great shooter and if he does improve his shooting upon his arrival back on the court, adding a new dimension to his already dynamic game, then he will be deadly.

Bradley Beal has been carrying the Wizards for the past few years and has really developed into a star since John Wall got injured, if John Wall really comes back full health, this team, like lots of teams going into the 2021 season will have a ton of potential. Bradley Beal should be a disgruntled star as it feels like the Wizards are doing nothing to surround Beal with talent. If Beal isn’t requesting a trade, he must be really loyal or some other factor is keeping him. Although there is little doubt Beal is loyal it would be hard, especially in this day and age, to be sitting on a terrible team feeling like you’re making no progress toward the ultimate goal of winning the finals. There must be another factor keeping him. This factor is probably John Wall. John Wall has practiced with the Wizards so Beal has seen first hand how John Wall is doing. He must be doing really good if Beal wants to stay. Beal has even stated this saying in Wall’s first practice back, Wall brought an energy Beal described as the Wizards “needing all year”.

Wall has been off the court for three years and he must have a love of basketball if he’s made it to the NBA as you have to love the game to make it professionally. Wall will probably cherish this opportunity to get back on the court and will probably play very hard because he will likely want to make every game count as he experienced first hand it could be his last. The Wizards also have some young talent to be developed so the Wizards, with Wall, have a bright future. Wizards fans should have something to be excited about this next season recently not having much to be excited about these past three seasons. The Wizards fans have been loyal to the Wizards organization even through these hard years so they deserve better. If Wall does come back as good as he says the Eastern conference will be incredibly stacked. That is still an “if” we shouldn’t expect too much from Wall. So, will Wall come back better than before and bring the Wizards back to contenders this upcoming season or just be not the same as most expected and receive little attention? We will begin to find out this December.
