Do Not Travel This Winter

One bit of good news: Santa Claus is reportedly immune to Covid-19.

We are currently amidst the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. The United States has passed 10 million cases. Humanity is heartbroken, and many are frustrated about the lack of federal government leadership in the U.S. Many people have been in lockdown since March. We have not seen those who we love most dearly for a little less than a year. But we have to keep holding on.

We have to keep the big picture in mind. If you fly across the country to go see family this Winter, you are endangering them and everyone you know. We have to keep fighting and staying inside. We have to take responsibility and realize that by going to that party, you are taking a human life. As you decide to fly to Florida to see your grandparents, your neighbor is in the hospital attached to a defibrillator. We need to listen to the doctors.

Dr. Anthony Fauci suggested that Thanksgiving may just be the beginning of a series of dark, lonely holidays as the surge in coronavirus cases is likely to persist, or even get worse, through December, January, and February. “If the surge takes a turn of continuing to go up and you have sustained greater than 100,000 infections a day and 1,300 deaths per day and the count keeps going up and up … I don’t see it being any different during the Christmas and New Year’s holidays than during Thanksgiving,” he said in an interview with USA TODAY, urging people to take the future into account.

We know that after Thanksgiving in Canada, which took place in October, cases there have leaped upward dramatically. We can only assume therefore that traveling for Christmas will also increase cases and deaths significantly.

But like before, we know how to stop this depressing prediction from happening. Doctors have been telling us from the very beginning.” Staying home is the best way to protect yourself and others,” the CDC advises us.

I implore you, please don’t travel. Don’t submit to the evil of this pandemic. Stay home to keep yourself safe. Stay home to keep those you love safe. And stay home to keep America safe.
