A Close Race

On November 7th Joe Biden officially became the president-elect of the United States of America. Every 4 years there is a presidential election to determine who will be the next leader of the free world. The President is responsible for implementing and enforcing the laws written by Congress among other things. To determine who will be the next president we have an election where each state gets a certain amount of electoral votes based on their population, and when one presidential candidate gets a majority of that state’s votes all of the electoral votes in that state go to that candidate. To win the election one of the presidential candidates needs to win a minimum of 270 votes. When that happens that person is declared the presidential elect meaning that they won the race but have not been inaugurated into office yet.

This year Joe Biden ran against the former president trump and Biden won with 290 electoral votes even though Georgia, Alaska, and North Carolina have yet to declare who won in their state. With over 98 percent of America, votes counted Joe Biden has the support of 50.8% of them.

Joe Biden’s inauguration day when he becomes a full president is set for January 20 2020 on the west side of the united states capitol building. He will be inaugurated along with his vice president Kamala Harris who will be the first women vice president.
