Grey’s Anatomy Season 17 Details

Grey’s anatomy is coming out with a season 17 after leaving on a hard final note from season 16 and fans are more nervous and excited than ever. Grey’s anatomy has got a lot to owe to their fans for sticking around this long, the 16 seasons each have 21 episodes per season, meaning in total roughly 336 episodes for the whole show.  They even plan to go on longer. We don’t know the exact day Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) will hang up her scrubs for good, but thankfully we do know that Ellen has officially renewed her contract through 2020, which means Grey’s Anatomy is here to stay for at least one more season.

The episodes come one episode at a time and each air on different weeks. Normally they each air at 9 PM on Thursdays ET on ABC, but it was majorly postponed due to the Corona Virus outbreak , shutting down the production temporarily since May. But ever since the show is on its road to recovery. The first release date was on November 13th, 2020, they released the episode ¨My Happy Ending.¨ Could this be a sign the show is ending in season 17, or is this just a new beginning. That’s still what fans don’t know.  Season 17 officially is supposed to come out on Netflix on December 31st after all of the episodes have already been seen by viewers on ABC.

The real question is will the old cast be returning? Most of these Actors have signed a contract all the way through the 19th season and have their heart and soles put into making this show the best they can until the end, but that’s not their call. Many have made it clear that the show will not continue on without its lead actresses. “It will be up to them (Ellen and Shonda Rhimes) whether or not they want to continue the show,”  said producer Dax Shepord. We do know in season 17 that Ellen Pompeo, who plays Merideth Grey, will be returning, but sadly we do know that Derek, played by Patrick Dempsy will not be returning, he was officially written off the show in a fatal accident. He claimed that he was not getting that ¨family bonding experience¨and needed to take time off.

Most fans are wondering what will even happen in season 17, this show has almost addressed everything with every twist and turn they possibly could have. Producers said the show plans to imitate life in the year ahead. “We’re going to address this pandemic for sure,” the show runner said during a recent Television Academy panel. “There’s no way to be a long-running medical show and not do the medical story of our lifetimes.” While what season 17 has been planning for us may still be unknown, we do know that it will dive into and address  the full COVID-19 situation they faced, just this time they are actually acting. We do know that no matter what fans will not be happy with the ending, season 17 or not. Fans not only hope this season is not an end to the show, but a new beginning.
