Family of Selena Quintanilla and Netflix Sued by Producer

The family of Selena and Netflix were sued one million dollars by Motesuma Esperaza on Nov, 6, 2020. Motesuma Esperaza was the producer of the 1997 film “Selena.”

Motesuma Esperaza claimed that in 1998 he and Abraham Quintanilla signed a contract to give the rights to the life story of Selena in 1993. He also claims in 1998 they discussed making the series. He says the reason he is filing this lawsuit is because Abraham breached the contract and Netflix ignored his rights. E news reached out to Suzette Quintanilla, Abraham Quintanilla, and Netflix, but did not get a response. 

Producer Moises Zamora says “You’ll see her coming of age story as she transforms into the incredible superstar everyone knows and loves.” Selena was a famous Mexican American singer often known as the Tejano queen. She was first a part of the iconic group Selena y Los Dinos and later on transformed into a solo career. She was shot to death in Corpus Christi by the founder of her fan club and manager, Yolanda Saldivar. Selena was only 23 years old.This series is airing on Netflix Dec,4 ,2020.
