Poaching

Poaching

Margaret Lyons, Writing

Poaching has been a big issue for many years but has spiked in the recent years.

Poaching is a form of hunting to gain valuable animal parts. One of the biggest ways to poach is elephant poaching for the ivory tusks. These tusks are used for many luxury items such as jewelry, home decor, and most popular piano keys.

Poaching has become such an issue that scientists are predicting extinction of elephants by 2040. But you might be wondering if they’re only using the tusks then why would they kill it? And that’s the cruel part, they decided it’s easier to get the tusks when the elephant is dead so they can chain saw them off , when the elephant is still large and heavy the can’t get the tusks off. The tusks themselves go for 1,500 dollars. Sadly many animals are being poached not just the elephants. Tigers, rhinos, and lions are all illegally poached for there fur or tusks. one way we can help this issue is stop using tiger fur or lion fur and ivory tusks for luxury items, instead we could use rabbit, or faux fur for these items and wood to replace the ivory.
