Dance is a sport

The debate has always been, is dance a sport? And yes it is a sport.

It’s a sport because Emily O’Neil states that the dictionary says a sport is “an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment” and “physical” as stated is a motion and “team” so dance has required a sport as long as it is a team competing against another team. And it is definitely entertaining.

Sports like soccer, basketball, hockey, football, etc. are obviously hard and a workout and when people play those sports they show their exhaustion, but that’s the thing about dance, the performers don’t act tired, which honestly makes it more tiring than showing your exhausted and wiping the sweat off your face, and breathing heavily. But to hold it all in is a very difficult thing to do and that is why dance is so difficult. Grace Sim a teacher who believes dance is a sport states, “dance is the only sport that requires stamina, speed, flexibility, and muscle. The physical activity and endurance needed to be a dancer should make dancing classified as a sport.” From this statement, readers can see that dance is a very difficult sport and takes just as much athleticism as any other sport. Therefore, dance is a sport because of its athletic traits and movement.
