Estes Park continues to set on fire as high winds make the fire carry to the east.
When these strong winds pick up and continue it is hard to maintain and work with the fire. As the winds were settling down, the firefighters could try to maintain the fire again. Sadly overnight the fire had reached a lot of homes.
Throughout the day the firefighters worked against the fire and continued to evacuate people from their homes. Soon the fire started going down further into the town and eventually crossed a road, which caused neighborhoods West of Devil’s Backbone to evacuate.
“The good news is that once the fire got to that area, it arrived on terrain that is much friendlier to firefighters.” says Sheriff Justin Smith who has been working with the crew and the fires from day one.
Now that the fire is in a better place and it is easier to work with, the firefighters pull up and start on the job. In that place the fire was maintainable and lucky the firefighters were able to stop it from spreading in that area any more and quickly put out the blaze.
Just as the firefighter started to think that the fire started to calm down and become more maintainable, they got a report that a new fire had started in Red Mountain. The fire was located right at Wyoming’s state line in LIvermore’s fire district. The firefighters immediately rushed over there with all their resources. When they got there they were relieved to see that this new fire was small and in a good place for the firefighters to work on it and it was very maintainable.
They quickly put out the fire, right at that time they got a call from northern Boulder County that a devastating fire broke out there. Bolder’s fire recruits were already working on it, but it was too big.
As that was going on, Sheriff Justin Smith and other sheriff and rec routes met about how much of a threat the fire was to Grandby and Grand Lake. They decided that they would leave them until further notice.
“Does all of this sound a bit crazy? It was.” says Sheriff Justin smith. Lucky the morning of October Sunday the 25th, a snow storm came in and everybody is hoping that it will help and calm down the fires.
