Another Family Recipe

This is another recipe from my family recipe book that I thought I should share with you! This family recipe is a recipe that my Aunt Margret gave to use and it is in our official family cookbook. My mom had her friends over and they said it was a dream. The recipe is below.

  • 1 pound of spicy or mild Italian sausage
  • 2 cloves of garlic finely chopped
  • 1 can of tomato sauce
  • 1 can of stewed tomatoes
  • 1 medium-sized shallot finely chopped
  • 2 small cans of mushrooms
  • 3 cups of pasta your choice
  • 1 tsp Onion salt
  • 2 tsp of cayenne pepper if desired
  • ½ cup heavy whipping cream

  • Brown Italian sausage in a saucepan over medium heat
  • Meanwhile, boil a pot of water for noodles and add one Tablespoon of salt and bring to boil
  • Once boiling add the noodles and cook to the desired doneness
  • When sausage is mostly brown add in the garlic, shallots, and mushrooms (finely chop mushrooms if desired)
  • Cook until sausage is fully cooked and drain if desired(but that’s getting rid of all the flavor)
  • Add the can of tomato sauce and can of stewed tomatoes to the meat
  • Simmer for five to ten minutes on low temperature
  • Turn the temperature down and slowly mix in heavy whipping cream
  • Add cayenne pepper
  • Once noodles are cooked to the desired doneness strain them but retain one-half cup of the noodle water and add to the sauce
  • Best served in a bowl by placing the noodles in a bowl first and spooning sauce over the noodles

I rate this recipe with four stars because it is super good, saucy, and delicious. I really liked it and I usually don’t like to eat leftovers but this pasta was really good fresh and reheated. The only thing that I would add to the recipe to make it taste better would be maybe a little more flavor to the sauce which you could do by adding some ground red pepper. It could also use a  little bit of spice to it especially if you like spicy foods so you might want to add your favorite pasta spice for an extra zing. If you want an extra zing but have no idea what to add I would recommend ground red pepper.  My mom rates it “with a four and a half because it is a delicious and simple dish that can be tweaked slightly to appeal to both adults and children” and the option of using hot or mild Italian sausage and crushed red pepper for the extra spice. This is one of the best pasta I have ever had.
