2020 NBA Finals

The 2020 NBA season has been one of the craziest to date. With COVID-19 going on, the players have to play in an arena with virtual fans, and have taken extreme measures to stay healthy and be able to play. The playoffs started with 16 teams then narrowed down to 8 which led to 4. The semifinals started with the Heat vs Celtics with the Heat coming out on top. Then The Nuggets and the Lakers faced off with the Lakers taking the victory.  The last time the Heat were in the finals, was in 2013, so it’s been 7 years. The last time the Lakers were in the finals was in 2010, with help from Hall of Fame coach Phil Jackson, and Kobe Bryant. The Heat with a .603 win percentage and the 5th seed in the eastern conference, are matching up against the .732 win percentage Lakers with the top seed in the western conference.

As for the Heat, with veteran player Andre Igudala, after winning 3 finals with the Golden State Warriors, he is here to help the Heat win their 4th championship. The Heat have not had this good of a season since before 2014. The Heat have been the underdog throughout the whole playoffs, they went and beat the Bucks, and then the Celtics, both of which were expected to go far in this year’s playoffs. With Jimmy Butler coming down from Philadelphia, The Heat have gained a valuable team member, Jimmy has been averaging 20 points a game this season and is shooting for 45% from the field. The Heat have only taken 6 games to win a series this playoffs, no team has taken them to a game 7.  While the Lakers have never been taken to a game 6 winning all of their series in 5.

With the stacked Lakers team going up against the Miami heat, many are predicting an easy win for the Lakers. Many Sports analysts are saying the key to the Lakers win will be Anthony Davis, He has been putting up incredible numbers and is emerging as a “co-star not a sidekick.”-Sports Illustrated. They are saying the Heat will need to step up their game if they even want to go to a game 5. “Lakers over Heat in 5” says famous sports writer Chris Mannix. While most people are predicting an easy win for the Lakers, anyone who is saying the Heat will win, are mostly saying a game 7 will be necessary. Others are saying that because the Heat went through tougher teams in the playoffs, they can beat the lakers like they did the Bucks and Celtics.  No matter the outcome, this Finals will be one of the most fun to watch. With both teams being incredibly good, this matchup is one many have dreamed up far a long time.
