The Irrelevance of State Testing

The Irrelevance of State Testing

Isabella Gonzalez, author

State testing disallows outside resources and has a time limit for each test. If any of the parameters are not followed, you are at risk of retaking the test. State testing is a test all children take to measure how effective schools and teachers are teaching them and how the students are progressing. But is it really for that reason? Students are told it is to help future teachers have a placement for the student, which is part of it. Many parents don’t like the idea of their kids doing state testing. Fortunately for them, they can opt-out if they don’t want their kid taking it.

Students don’t usually enjoy taking the demanding 1-2 hour test. However, teachers believe it is essential to see how their students improve. Some kids can have some helpful accommodations if they need them. However, it can be a hassle for the kids, teachers, and staff. With unique accommodations, it can be difficult to prevent cheating, and it’s just too much work. Overall, some kids and teachers don’t mind standardized tests, while others think the test is unnecessary and irrelevant.
