The Biggest Animal Known To Live

The most giant animal that scientists know that’s alive or have found is the Antarctic Blue Whale. This Blue Whale can weigh up to 200 tons of 400,000 pounds and can be up to 25 meters long. Sadly, this Whale is an endangered species still being illegally hunted 12 years after a protection commission started. Although these vast animals sometimes get hunted, approximately 5,000 to 8,000 still live. These whales like to bask in the colder parts of the ocean near the Antarctic Convergence. Their breeding grounds, however, are not known 100% but are thought to breed around waters of the South Pacific, Indian, and Atlantic Oceans. These massive whales can take up to 50 tonnes of water with Krill in one mouthful but spit out the water. These whales are picky eaters in the Arctic, only having Krill as their diet, but some usually eat up to 6 tons of them each day. The whale’s song can travel thousands of kilometers; some say it’s as loud as a jet taking off if you’re right next to it. Their songs can be as loud as 188 decibels, while a jet taking off is around 140 decibels. Their songs contain four low, long notes that can be heard for miles.
