The Issues of the Willow Project

May 15, 2023
The Willow Project is an $8 billion plan to extract 600 million barrels of oil from the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska, which is about 200 miles north of the Arctic Circle. If they go through with the Willow Project, endangered species could go extinct, and many helpless animals could become extremely ill including Steller’s Eiders sea ducks, Bowhead whales, and Southern Beaufort Sea polar bears. If it’s completed, it would release an additional 9.2 million metric tons of carbon pollution into the atmosphere each year. President Joe Biden has even approved the project, despite its negative impacts. Many Americans think they should approve the Willow Project, but it is not too late to stop this from happening and there is a petition that you can sign against it. More than 5 million people have signed the petition in hopes that President Biden will not approve the Willow Project. In my opinion, if the Willow Project happens, it will only make climate change worse, and it will make countless, innocent animals suffer, for something that they had nothing to do with, so I urge you to sign the petition, and please help these innocent animals.
