Three Christmas Cookies to Try this Holiday Season

Cate Farnsworth, Author

Christmas is known for presents, spending time with family, snow, and singing carols. But another key part of this holiday season is the food. Candy canes, pies, and Christmas hams can be found in different shops and on dinner tables all through the winter. Yet one of the treats that Christmas is known for is cookies. Here are some delicious holiday cookie varieties to try.

First, there is one of the most classic and well-known Christmas cookies, the gingerbread cookie. Gingerbread cookies are crunchy brown cookies formed into the shapes of people, houses, or basically anything else you can think of. These deserts are generally made using brown sugar molasses and spices like ground ginger, cinnamon, allspice, and cloves. All of the flavors make them warming and comforting to eat on a cold winter day. They can also be decorated with royal icing to sweeten and customize the treats, and with sprinkles to make the gingerbread cookies more colorful and unique.

Another cookie you might want to try baking is peanut butter blossom cookies. These cookies are made using peanut butter, and the other ingredients generally used to make normal cookies including sugar, eggs, flour, baking powder, and more. When the dough comes out of the oven the cookies are thick and soft. And with a chocolate kiss on the top of the cookie, these sweet treats are almost irresistible during the holiday season.

Lastly, a cookie variety to try is the M&M cookie bars. These deserts are most often baked in a pan and then sliced up into squares for everyone to eat. Including chocolate chips that melt in the mouth and red and green M&Ms, these cookies have a rich chocolaty flavor and are very festive. Plus, with the thickness of these cookie bars, the bar is both filling and chewy, creating a delicious dessert for any Christmas gatherings or meals.

There are so many cookie varieties that exist today, so have a good holiday season and an even better dessert.
