FLY, EAGLES, FLY

The Eagles have managed to go from 9-8 last year to 10-1 this year. The Eagles picked up hurts in 2020 and he started near the end of his rookie season. But, it seems Hurts is not the main reason for the team’s success and if it isn’t Jalen Hurts, what is it?

In an interview with Eagles receiver DeVonta Smith stated, “I think we know the identity of the team,” said Smith. “Last year, we discovered that we need to run the ball more. Once we did that, we started getting better every week. This year, we can do either or [run it or throw it]. It really just depends on who we’re playing and how the game is going. Everybody is coming together and connecting well. That camaraderie has taken us far.” This is interesting because the game now is more focused on passing. It does however make sense because the Eagles run the ball more and when you get the defense running a run-heavy defense, you can take the shots down the field and get them to run more cover 4s and 2s, and defenses like those that are more based on stopping the pass, which means that running will be more efficient. This is a great strategy because you have the linebackers in a conflict with do I play the run more or the pass and giving the defensive coordinator a hard time choosing plays to stop the offense. A big part of having this work out for the offense is the quarterback. They have Jalen Hurts who is 6′ 1″, 223 lbs, 8/7/1998 (24), Oklahoma, and picked 2020: Rd 2, Pk 53 (PHI). He wears number one and often wears a clear visor.

The thing about Hurts is that he can run the ball more effectively than most running back which is very valuable to a team to have a quarterback that can run. This seems to be what the NFL is becoming, more of a passing-QB running game. That is why Mahomes and Allen have found so much success recently. Hurts has rushed for 597 yards, a 4.7 average, and 8 rushing touchdowns. Overall he has 2,560 yards, 17 touchdowns, 3 interceptions, and a QBR of 68.2 which is fourth in the NFL.

Hurts has a 20-8-1 record which isn’t a great match to how he plays because his first season he came in at the end and didn’t have much practice with the 1s. The Eagle’s defense has 752 tackles led by T.J Edwards with 103, Kyzir White with 72, and both safeties with 60 tackles. They also have 15 interceptions for 131 yards and 1 touchdown. They also have forced 10 fumbles and 8 of those were recovered by the Eagles. They also have 36 sacks. They picked up wide receiver A.J. Brown from a trade with the Titans. Hurts has superhuman strength, so his deadlift last year was 620 pounds, which is crazy. At the combine, he benched 225 and squatted 600. Not to mention that this was 2 years ago and that’s the same weight as a black bear. Overall the team has really come together this season and is looking for the Lombardi trophy.
